NEFA to Co-Sponsor KahBang Art Festival
KahBang Music|Art|Film is proud to announce that the New England Foundation of the Arts will be the Co-Presenting Sponsor for the 2012 KahBang Art Festival along with KahBang Arts. This partnership reflects and embodies both organizations’ visions for artistic dialogue and community on a local, regional, and national level.
Bangor based, KahBang Arts is a nonprofit dedicated to the discovery, development and support of independent artists. As part of our mission we forge partnerships and create relationships with venues & building owners to take empty spaces and create pop-up galleries to showcase emerging talent in the arts.
Similarly, NEFA seeks to build connections between artists across New England. New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) supports artists with grants and professional resources; establishes vital connections between artists, arts programmers, and the public; and strengthens the region’s creative economy through research that informs public policythrough servies such as MatchBook.org - a free easy-to-use directory that brings together New England’s performing artists, performance spaces and presenting organizations.
This years KahBang Art Fesitval will feature fine artists and performance artists from across the country over the course of four days, August 9-12, in galleries and exhibitions in downtown Bangor and on the Bangor Waterfront. Events include an Artwalk on August 10th in multiple galleries and local businesses, artist mixers throughout the event, and a “Live Art Wall” with artist Martin Wentworth which encourages community members and artists alike to be co-creators of a dynamic and evolving mural on the Bangor Waterfront. The annual art festival is curated and developed by KahBang Arts and focuses on bringing a variety of different artists into its galleries and spaces. The partnership with NEFA will further enhance and ensure the overarching goal of the festival: to build connections and partnerships among artists as well as engender an excitement and appreciation for the arts that will surpass the festival itself.
