Green Ticketing
KahBang is partnering with Green Mountain Energy to offset a portion of its event goers’ emissions created by traveling to and from the event. For the 2011 KahBang Festival, we will include one Green Ticket unit for each ticket sold on its e-commerce check-out engine and onsite at the event. This year’s Green Ticket program will automatically “green up” each attendee’s event related travel emissions by automatically purchasing 220 pounds of certified carbon offsets.
This year, each event ticket purchased has the same environmental benefit as:
• Over 245 miles not driven
• Recycling over 540 aluminum cans: or
• The amount of CO2 absorbed by almost 13 trees in one year
With the Green Ticketing program in 2011 we hope to offset nearly 2 million pounds – 900 metric tons – of carbon dioxide (CO2). What does offsetting 900 metric tons of CO2 really look like? It has about the same environmental impact as:
• Taking over 9,000 cars off the road for one week: or
• The amount of CO2 absorbed by almost 120,000 trees in one year; or
• 20,000 homes turning off lights for one month; or
• Recycling over 4.8 million aluminum cans; or
• The height of a recycled newspaper stack totaling 66,000 feet!
Green Mountain Energy Company, headquartered in Autin, TX, is one of the nation’s leading competitive retail provider of cleaner energy and carbon offset solutions. The company began in 1997 with a simple idea: “to change the way power is made”. The company entered the renewable electricity market with the belief that if given a choice, consumers will choose cleaner electricity products using renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, water, geothermal and biomass, over electricity made from polluting fossil fuels. These cleaner energy sources help reduce the amount of CO2 emitted into the air.

WASTED at KahBang is searching for artists to assist with redesigning recycling bins for KahBang 2011. The festival will host this exhibit to showcase winning designs and to help keep the festival grounds spotless and promote recycling during the event. If you have the skills and imagination, we invite you to participate.
Send us a link to your artwork, concept and/or website. Any emails over 2.0mb will be blacklisted (just send large files via sendspace.com). Email: art@kahbang.com (please make your subject line “WASTED at KahBang”)
All confirmed artists will be responsible for supplying their own recycling bin (we will help you secure a recycling bin). The final collection will be on display during the week of KahBang as part of the art festival and then on display on the Music Festival Grounds. After Kahbang, the entire collection will be donated to a High School in Maine. If you are looking to win the collection, you will need to send us an email of why your school deserves the WASTED recycling bins, what your master plan is for the bins once in your possession and how you would transport the recycling bins from the festival grounds to your school.
25 finalists will be selected to design recycling bins. 5 artists will win KahBang tickets while the other 20 artists will win prizes provided by the program sponsor.
Presented in partnership with: The Rock and Art Shop, Giacomos, Boynton-McKay Food Co., Metropolitan Soul, Hampden Natural Living Center, Central Street Farmhouse
